Marketing how to articles and videos

Freelance writers who want to make money from their how to articles can market them in several ways: they can sell them to someone that buys freelance writing, publish them as articles on their own website or blog, publish them as ezine articles on an article directory, or publish them them as part of a pack of ezine articles and market the pack of articles.

Alternatively, they can shoot a video about their how to project and upload the video to their own website or upload it to another website.

This article discusses the option of writers making money by publishing their articles on their own website or blog, and the option of publishing them as articles on other websites.

Making money by publishing how to article on own website or blog

The advantage of this is, the writer receives all of the advertising revenue from the article, it isn’t shared with anyone else.
The disadvantage is, the writer’s website might not receive many visitors (sometimes called `website traffic’). If this is the case the article might not be viewed very often, which in turn will reduce the chances of making money from the advertisements which have been placed around it.

Making money by publishing how to article on another website

With this system, the writer makes money by sharing the advertising revenue with the other site, which is a disadvantage.
The advantage of this system is, the other website might receive plenty of traffic - more traffic than the writer receives on his website. This will increase the chances of making money from the advertisements which have been placed around the article (although this revenue will have to be shared with the other site).

Indirect advantages of publishing how to on other website

There is another advantage, but it isn’t related to making money, at least not directly. Writers who publish their articles on high traffic sites can soon achieve a reputation, `make a name for themselves’, by placing a link from the article to their site.
This might have the effect of driving some of the traffic from the other site to the writer’s site, and some of this traffic might click on his advertisements.

Sacrificing a how to article

Freelance writers might want to consider sometimes `sacrificing’ an article by publishing it on another website rather than on their own site.
Naturally, they can publish it on their own site and on another site, but this might create `duplicate content’ issues, the situation whereby identical content has been published on several different websites.

Future

I’ve published a how to article on this site which I plan to also shoot as a video and upload to another site. In a future post I plan to analyse the progress of this video and compare it with the article version.
