Finding story ideas 2

blog story idea

Sometimes ideas for creative writing can be found on local newspaper web sites as well as on international news web sites.

For example a British local newspaper has just published an article on its web site about a local blogger who has been punished for criticising people in his local community ( click on blog story idea screenshot on left to enlarge it.) A court served him with an `ASBO’, an `anti-social behaviour order’, restraining him from behaving in this way.
As I stated in story idea development 1, if you’re in the US for example and plan to use story ideas from overseas news web sites, you can adapt them for your own use. You probably can’t write a story about a blogger who has been served with an ASBO because ASBO’s might not be part of your legal system but you can write a story about a blogger who has been punished in some other legal way. For example, all of the countries that I mentioned in part 1 probably haveĀ  `restraining orders’ or `cease and desist’ orders in their legal systems even if they don’t have ASBO’s.
My guess is that a story about a blogger that `goes too far’ with his criticism would attract a lot of interest here on the Web because blogging is such an integral part of the Web.
To summarise, don’t reject the idea of looking at local newspaper web sites for your story ideas, some of their news stories may not be as `small town’ as you might think, they can sometimes be used in a wider context.
